Doughnuts and Top Cow Episode 34 – Pilot Season Begins

Pilot season is under way.  Josh and John take a look at the first two books in the series – The Test (story Joshua Hale Fialkov, art Rahsan Ekedal) and City of Refuge (story by Morgan Davis Foehl, art & cover by Dennis Calero).

Josh also mentions a sweeeet Witchblade sketch by current Artifacts artist (and incoming Darkness artist) Jeremy Haun:  https://twitter.com/#!/dreamyeyed/status/125338905162686465

Doughnuts and Top Cow Episode 33 – Where to Start With Witchblade

Top Cow recently posed the question – what issue of Witchblade would you recommend new readers start with?  John and Josh tackle the question with their own thoughts – they would sure love to hear what YOU think!  Afterward, Josh takes a walk through the Top Cow Previews solicitations for shipment in December.

We had tasty (and naughty) doughnuts this week from Copps Grocery Store in Madison.  Glazed croissants and raspberry filled bismarks.  Mmmm.

Doughnuts and Top Cow Episode 27 – Artifacts 9

The series continues strong, and it gets a boost from sexy writing by Ron Marz and sexy drawing by Jeremy Haun!  Did we mention this was a sexy issue?  Sara and Jackie confirm what we all knew, and the fight to control the 13 artifacts continues!  Josh and John run through the issue.

Doughnuts and Top Cow Episode 26 – Witchblade Vol. 2 – Awakenings

Josh and John continues their journey through the Witchblade trades, studying volume 2 “Awakenings.”  This is a rich and satisfying trade, capped off by a terrific origins story that chronicles the Witchblade bearers from the beginning through the centuries.

Josh shouted out to some friends this week:  the Contest of Challenges Podcast (and Josh is mentioned on their show about Summit City Comic Con).  Also, check out the Comic Slumber Party Podcast.

Doughnuts and Top Cow Episode 25 – Witch Hunt

We are hungry for details, so we took a trip back to Witchblade TPB Vol. 1 and the start of the “Ron Marz Era” in the Top Cow Universe.  Josh and John look at the introduction of important new characters in Witchblade #80:  Patrick Gleason and the Curator.  Both are prominent characters in Witchblade, and the Curator has proven to be vital to the Artifacts storyline.  We’re still playing the “dead pool” with ol’ Detective Gleason.

We survived a “podcast disaster” when we lost the first 10 minutes of the show.  Still, we put a pretty good time together from the audio that remained.

Doughnuts were some “Glazers” from Kwik Trip.

We have a bonus with our Doughnuts today . . . a real, live Pastry Chef!  Alissa Wallers from Chicago joins us to talk about technique and how good today’s treats from Lane’s Bakery in Madison are!

Josh and John dive into everything Witchblade, starting with Witchblade 144 while jumping back to the 1st issue from 15 years ago!  We also touch upon Witchblade in other media.  Witchblade may not have been the first Top Cow book, but it sure has become the Flagship Title!

We also look at where Sara last ran into Samantha from Hunter-Killer. Plus we take a look at where Aphrodite IV fits into the mix.
